Light Trails

This installation pushed me to places that I didn’t know. I wanted to create a type of painting or drawing program where the user is the brush. I came up with the idea that the user would move their body in front of a camera and the results would then be projected onto the wall in front of them. Rather than having the canvas stay the same the whole time, the "drawing" fades away.

Initially, I planned on using a Kinect to track the user’s movement and shape, but ended up using a webcam instead. Their movement was then translated onto the wall a blob/silhouette that is filled with cycling color. This project was created using Processing, the video library and OpenCv library.
